The Governing Body is made up of representatives of the Staff, Parents and the Community as well as having some members appointed by the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.). They are all volunteers who give up their free time to ensure the school is managed effectively and to the benefit of the children. The governors have various legal responsibilities and duties. They are responsible for the effective management of the school, for the school budget and for Health & Safety. They help to set, and monitor the school philosophy and policies. Governors do not make detailed day to day decisions about the running of the school, this is the role of the Head Teacher, supported by the staff.
The governors meet each term (six terms a year) as a group. Many of the responsibilities of the governing body are delegated to committees that meet before the main governing body. At Bridlewood the governors have recently reorganised these into School Improvement and Resources committees. School Improvement is focussed on the school improvement plan and curriculum matters, whereas the resources committee looks at finance, staffing and premises matters. We may also have working parties if we need to work on a specific issue together. Please contact us via email if you are interested in any issues related to the governing body, or if you wish to join us!
